De 27-jarige Spanjaard Rafael Nadal (ATP-4) heeft zondag het Masters 1000-toernooi in het Canadese Montreal (2.887.085 dollar) op zijn naam gebracht. In de finale versloeg hij de Canadees Milos Raonic (ATP-13) in 1 uur en 8 minuten met tweemaal 6-2.
Het is de 58ste ATP-titel voor Nadal, de achtste dit seizoen. Eerder dit jaar was de voormalige nummer een van de wereld de beste in Sao Paulo, Acapulco, Indian Wells, Barcelona, Madrid, Rome en Roland Garros.
Het toernooi in Montreal staat nu drie keer op zijn palmares. Hij won het ook in 2005 en 2008.
