Derde reekshoofd Rafael Nadal (ATP 4) heeft zich maandag, de dag waarop hij zijn 27e verjaardag viert, gekwalificeerd voor de kwartfinales van Roland Garros.
De Spanjaard versloeg eenvoudig de Japanner Kei Nishikori (ATP 15) in drie sets met 6-4, 6-1 en 6-3. In de volgende ronde neemt Nadal het op tegen de Fransman Richard Gasquet (ATP 9) of de Zwitser Stanislas Wawrinka (ATP 10).
