Vooral buitenlanders dreigen thuis te blijven. Zestien weken voor het WK op 11 juni start, zijn enkel de groepswedstrijden van Engeland verkocht. Volgens FIFA-algemeen secretaris Jerome Valcke valt de interesse voor de overige duels tegen.
De FIFA verwachtte zo'n 500.000 fans naar Zuid-Afrika te lokken, maar dat zal waarschijnlijk niet lukken. Om toch nog supporters te verleiden, roept de voetbalbond op om de prijzen te verlagen.
