Oekraïne hoopt de Italiaan Marcello Lippi als nieuwe bondscoach te strikken. De voetbalbond zou al een riant contract hebben opgesteld.
Oekraïne en Polen organiseren in 2012 samen het Europees kampioenschap. De Oost-Europeanen hopen ver te komen en denken dat Lippi daarin zal slagen. De Italiaan won in 2006 met het Italiaanse elftal nog de wereldtitel. Hij zit momenteel zonder club.
Voorlopig is Joeri Kalitvinsev nog interim-coach van Oekraïne. Hij verving in augustus Miron Markevitsj die ontslag nam.
