Op de atletiekmeeting in het Duitse Düsseldorf is een official zondag levensbedreigend gewond geraakt. De 75-jarige man werd door een speer in de halsslagader geraakt. Hij was het terrein opgelopen om de worp op te meten, terwijl het projectiel nog in de lucht hing.
Toeschouwers en paramedici brachten de eerste zorgen toe, waarna de man naar het ziekenhuis werd afgevoerd. Sommige toeschouwers waren in shock en moesten psychologisch begeleid worden.
