Olivier Rochus (ATP-73) heeft zich zaterdag geplaatst voor de tweede kwalificatieronde van het Masters Series-toernooi in de Spaanse hoofdstad Madrid.
De kleine Waal vloerde de Braziliaan João Souza (ATP-148). Het werd 2-6, 7-6 (7/5) en 7-6 (7/3).
Zondag kruist de 30-jarige Rochus de degens met de Italiaan Flavio Cipolla (ATP-159). De inzet is een plekje op de hoofdtabel.
