Niet het Burkina Faso van trainer Paul Put maar Nigeria heeft zich zondag tot beste voetballand van Afrika gekroond. De Nigerianen haalden het in 'Soccer City' (Johannesburg, Zuid-Afrika) dankzij een doelpunt van Mba in de 40e minuut.
Voor Nigeria is het de derde overwinning in de Afrika Cup. Burkina Faso overleefde voor deze editie nog nooit de groepsfase.
