De allereerste Rus in de Formule 1 reed in zijn debuutjaar nog maar één keer in de punten. In China werd hij zevende, goed voor zes punten.
Zijn Poolse teammakker Robert Kubica wist al 83 punten te veroveren. In het voorbije weekend liet hij zich alvast ontvallen een sterke teamgenoot te willen hebben.
