In de winter mocht Toni voor een half seizoen van Bayern naar AS Roma. De Romeinen zijn tevreden over de spits en willen Toni graag houden. Die lag bij Bayern overhoop met trainer Louis Van Gaal, maar toch wil de Duitse ploeg hem niet zonder slag of stoot laten vertrekken.
Bayern wil Toni ruilen voor een kleine som en de Montenegrijnse aanvaller Mirko Vucinic. AS Roma neemt het voorstel in overweging.
