De 32-jarige klimmer, het nummer vier uit de voorbije Ronde van Frankrijk, kon op de belangstelling rekenen van het Nederlandse Vacansoleil, maar besloot zijn huidige werkgever zeker trouw te blijven tot en met 2012.
Sanchez werd prof in 2000. Hij won vijf ritten in de Vuelta en het Kampioenschap van Zürich.
