Williams moest weinig moeite doen om de slechts 17-jarige Larcher De Brito uit te schakelen. Hoewel de Portugese lef toonde, bleek het krachtverschil te groot en kon de Amerikaanse al na een uurtje haar slag binnenhalen.
Williams, die het grandslamtoernooi in Londen al drie keer op haar naam mocht schrijven, neemt het in de volgende ronde op tegen de Russiche Anna Tsjavetadze.
