Serena Williams (WTA 12) is maandag uitgeschakeld
in de achtste finales van de Australian Open. De Amerikaanse,
vijfvoudig winnares van de Australian Open, verloor van de Russin Ekaterina
Makarova (WTA 56) in twee sets: 6-2 6-3.
De linkshandige Makarova neemt het in de kwartfinales op tegen de
winnares van het duel tussen het Russische vierde reekshoofd Maria
Sharapova en 14de reekshoofd Sabine Lisicki uit Duitsland.
