Maria Sharapova (WTA 2) heeft zich dinsdag erg makkelijk geplaatst voor de tweede ronde van Roland Garros. De Russin, het tweede reekshoofd, versloeg de Roemeense Alexandra Cadantu (WTA 75) met 6-0 en 6-0. In de tweede ronde speelt ze tegen de Japanse Ayumi Morita (WTA 88).
Vorig jaar bereikte Sharapova de halve finales in Parijs, een evenaring van haar beste resultaat uit 2007.
