Voor de tweevoudige winnaar van de Ronde van Vlaanderen geldt wat ook voor Van Avermaet geldt: zijn huidige team Quick-Step liet in zijn contract een clausule opnemen met het recht op first refusal. Dat wil zeggen dat de renner moet blijven waar hij is als Quick-Step het bod van BMC evenaart.
