Thomas De Gendt (Vacansoleil-DCM) is maandag tijdens de negende etappe in de Vuelta door de koersdirectie uit de wedstrijd gehaald omdat hij te lang aan de volgwagen had gehangen.
Ook de Brit Andrew Fenn (Omega Pharma-Quick Step) moest om dezelfde reden de wedstrijd verlaten. De Gendt was aan een kleurloze Vuelta bezig en stond na de achtste rit van zondag op de 122e plaats in de stand.
