Maria Sharapova (WTA 2) heeft zich maandag in Parijs geplaatst voor de kwartfinales van Roland Garros. De Russin, titelverdedigster op het gravel in Parijs, versloeg in de achtste finales de Amerikaanse Sloane Stephens (WTA 17) in twee sets met 6-4 en 6-3.
Sharapova, die in het huidige toernooi nog geen enkele set moest prijsgeven, ontmoet in de kwartfinales de Amerikaanse Jamie Hampton (WTA 54) of de Servische Jelena Jankovic (WTA 18).
