Na grote kleppers Kim Clijsters (WTA-5) en Serena Williams (WTA-1) heeft nu ook de Amerikaanse Venus Williams (WTA-3) afgehaakt voor het WTA-tornooi van Peking.
Williams kampt met een linkerknieblessure. Het tornooi van Peking begint zaterdag. Na het afzeggen van zus Serena Williams en Kim Clijsters tekenen nog altijd zestien speelsters uit de top-20 present.
