Thomas Vermaelen blijft zo goed als zeker bij het Londense Arsenal. Coach Arsène Wenger ziet de Rode Duivel als uitstekend alternatief bij een schorsing of blessure van één van zijn vaste centrale verdedigers (Mertesacker en Koscielny).
Zenit trachtte onlangs nog de verdediger binnen te halen. De Russische titelkandidaat aast ondertussen al op Ezequiel Garay van Benfica. De transferperiode in Rusland sluit eind februari.
