De vijfde rit ging over 170 km tussen Eibar en Orio. Alejandro Valverde (Caisse d'Epargne) draagt ook na deze etappe nog steeds de gele leiderstrui.
Zaterdag rijden de renners de slotrit in het Baskenland. Daarna volgt nog een individuele tijdrit van 22 km in de straten van Orio in Noord-Spanje.
