Xavier Malisse (ATP-53) heeft zich maandag voor de achtste finales van het ATP-toernooi van San José (Californië) geplaatst. De 32-jarige West-Vlaming won in de eerste ronde in 1 uur en 40 minuten met 6-4, 3-6 en 6-3 van de Japanner Go Soeda (ATP-70).
De volgende tegenstander voor het Belgische achtste reekshoofd komt uit een partij tussen de Australiër Matthew Ebden (ATP-113) en een kwalificatiespeler.
