Yanina Wickmayer (WTA-37) heeft zich maandag voor de tweede ronde van het met 640.000 dollar gedoteerd WTA-toernooi van Stanford (Californië) geplaatst. Het Belgische vijfde reekshoofd won in 2 uur en 24 minuten met 7-5, 2-6 en 7-5 van de Taiwanese Kai-Chen Chang (WTA-118).
In de tweede ronde neemt de 22-jarige Vlaams-Brabantse het op tegen de winnares van de partij tussen de Amerikaanse Sloane Stephens (WTA-49) en de Britse Heather Watson (WTA-79).
