Sinds de voorstelling van het Ford Evos concept werd er verwacht dat Ford zich zou wagen aan een nieuwe coupé, misschien zelfs een nieuwe Capri. Initieel werd gedacht dat de nieuwe Focus als basis zou dienen, nadien werd er zelfs gesuggereerd dat de nieuwe Mondeo er als tweedeurs zou komen. Maar Ford CEO Alan Mulally ontkent de komst van een Ford Coupé.
