Al sinds 1987 lepelt Volkswagen haar 4Motion technologie in de Golf en dat is voor deze zevende generatie niet anders. Onder de "kap" ligt de vijfde generatie hydraulische en elektronische Haldex-koppeling, die doet enkel beroep op de achterwielen bij tractieverlies vooraan.
