Het verhaal van de Ford Streetka begint in 1997, wanneer Ford en Ghia op het salon van Turijn de Ghia Saetta voorstellen. De auto past in het plan van Ford om tegen 2000 een aantal wagens te ontwikkelen die de sportiviteit en het fun-gehalte terug in het gamma kunnen brengen.
